Prep Enrolment and Transition

Welcome to our website. Choosing your child’s first school is one of the most important decisions you will make. At Timbarra P-9 College we offer a stimulating series of school transition activities. This enables both you and your child to become familiar with our school environment, learning areas, specialist teachers, school procedures and facilities.

We usually offer individual tours for parents/caregivers to see our classes in operation. However in this rapidly changing environment of COVID 19 we are creating a virtual tour for families to undertake. This is currently in progress and will be uploaded when complete. It will be a great way for you to see our school in action. Parents/Caregivers are most welcome to call the Prep Transition coordinator (Aimee Maddocks 97042744) to discuss enrolment and transition procedures and have any questions answered. We recommend early enrolment for prep 2021 to secure placement and to access our highly successful transition program during Term 4 2020.

During Term 4, Timbarra P-9 College is offering an open morning followed by an information seminar, four formal transition sessions (3 with specialist classes and one prep orientation morning) and three Storytelling sessions.

The transition sessions offer the best opportunity for us to get to know your child and it is also the best way for your child to become familiar with the school environment, confident and happy to begin their school journey.

Transition Sessions (sessions 1 – 3): Your child will have the opportunity to visit our specialist areas including Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Physical Education, whilst participating in specialised activities. There will be both an am and pm session available on these days, you only need to choose one on each day to attend.

Orientation morning (session 4): This is a Prep Orientation session which is set up like a ‘mini school day’. The children take participate in a reading session including a range of prep classroom activities. Please bring along a hat, a small snack and drink to this session please.

Storytelling sessions – These are highly recommended. The more your child visits the school and takes part in school activities, the more familiar and confident they will become with starting their school journey. While your child is participating in the Storytelling sessions, you will be invited to join in a school readiness seminar. These seminars are a casual talk with a current prep teacher in a group environment. We will be able to discuss things you can do at home to prepare your child for starting school as well as address any concerns you may have.

Bookings are essential for the formal transition sessions. The earlier the bookings are made the better chance you have of securing your first preference for the sessions. Booking must be made no later than Wednesday 16th of September to allow time for session preparation.

Please ring the school on 9704 2744 to book a place for transition activities.

We look forward to meeting you and showing you our wonderful school.
